At present, there are many manufacturers of inductor coil in the industry, with the scale ranging from a few people to hundreds of people. Many small workshop manufacturers ,because they can not satisfy the performance of customer requirements, product quality accidents frequently occur.

A few days ago, Miss Ye contacted me through the online platform, she hope we could provide a special inductor coil. Why special? Because this coil has a high requirement of Q value, which should reach 200 MIN and be used in SONY series products, and the monthly consumption needs to be 100K a month. She found a lot of inductor coil manufacturers, but failed, because the sample Q value can not reach can not pass. After I got the drawings and specifications, I immediately passed to engineer for numerical analysis and evaluation. Based on many years of experience in the inductor coils industry, engineer put forward several points to improve the Q value:

  1. According to the working frequency, to choose wire

Inductor coils working in low frequency band are generally wound by enameled wire and other insulated conductors. Working frequency is higher than tens of thousands of Hertz, and less than 2MHz of the circuit, use multi-strand insulated wire for winding coil, so that can effectively increase the surface area of the conductor, to overcome the effect of skin effect, then the Q value will be 30%-50% higher than of a single wire wound coil with the same cross-sectional area.

In the circuit with frequency higher than 2MHz, the inductor coil should be wound with a single thick wire, the diameter of the wire is generally 0.3mm-1.5mm.Inductor coils with inter-winding are usually wound with silver-plated copper wire to increase the electrical conductivity of the surface of the conductor.

2, Choose high quality bobbin, reduce the loss of medium

In the high frequency occasions, such as short-wave band, because of the ordinary bobbin, its medium loss significantly increased. Therefore, should choose high frequency medium materials.

3, Use magnetic core can significantly reduce the winding turns

Using the magnetic core can reduce the number of turns of the coil, which not only reduces the resistance value of the coil, but also improves the Q value, and reduces the volume of the coil.

Among the three solutions, the customer chose to use magnetic core inside the inductor coil to achieve the required Q value, and successfully placed a trial production order of 2K pieces to us.
